True Beauty

Here is another take on a sketch by Sketchabilities. The layout is based on Sketch #47 (see below). I really like how it turned out. I love flowers and butterflies and this looks appeals to me. I find it hard sometimes to find the right flower to match a layout. It took me a few tries before I found the right flowers for this one. I used the Gabrielle and Time Piece line from Bo Bunny for the papers, the brads and the trim, however  the flower cutouts and the doilies are from Webster's Pages. The white flowers are prima and I inked the edges pink. I really liked the effect of the ripped page. It says: "True Beauty is in the Heart and Soul"

Blessed

This is a layout I designed based on a Sketchabilities sketch. I didn't realize that I had used the sketches on this blog many times. I used to print them and use them as inspiration for my layouts. It wasn't until recently that I actually rediscovered this blog again and here is my first layout based on sketch #45. One of the things I like about this blog is that its owned by a Canadian scrapbooker like me. Her name is Karan Gerber. I like to support Canadian websites and she also has a different spelling for my same name. I use 2 "e" and she uses 2 "a" how cool is that. I had lots of fun doing this layout. I inked around the leafs to make the shadows. This gave the stems a fuller look.  I've seen this done before but never tried it. I love trying new techniques. I made this layout using the pictures from this past mother's day. My kids made me breakfast in bed and it was delicious.

I layered on the acrylic some gemstones, flowers, birds and butterflies.

Mom: You Gave Me Life

I made this layout with a picture of my mom and I taken on Mother's day this year. I used Webster's pages and some trims and chipboard to embelish this layout. I used sketch #121 from The Scrappiest and also used the word LIFE in my layout for the challenge at "Bird is the word". I really like how it turned out.

Love Begins Here

Well what I thought today as an easy sketch challenge, became quite challenging for me. One of the reasons was the amount of words and quotes the background paper I chose had. I made this layout for two sketch challenges. One from The Scrappiest, sketch #119 (see sketch below) and the other challenge from "Bird is the Word". I had to use the word "Begin" Well after designing the layout, I had  to think of a title that would fit the picture, the words in the background and that uses the word begin. It took me a long time but I finally came up with "Love Begins Here" which fits the page perfectly and ties it in with the words family on the background papers. I also changed the vertical background strips of the sketch to horizontal strips so the words will be straight. The papers I used are from Rusty Pickle. I got them many years ago at a scrapbooking convention and never used them I love when I dig through my stash for old papers to use. I distressed all the papers and embellishments to make them look antique...

Our Son

I made this layout for the Prima Build-a-page May sketch challenge. I can honestly say I've never used so much distress on one page. I basically distressed all the papers. First I ripped the edges with a steel ruler, then I inked them with Tim Holtz distress inks. I also made my own flowers using different size punches and I used many other Prima flowers. I realized I don't own those beautiful new Prima flowers that everyone uses in their layouts. I'm always using the old style flowers. However, these flowers fit my layout perfectly. I really believe I packed this layout to the max!! LOL,  I also managed to splatter ink for the first time on my background page. That was a huge accomplishment for me as I've never done it before. I was always afraid I'd ruin the paper. Here I sprayed the Adirondack red pepper colour by Tim Holtz. It was quite fun doing it, I went way out of my comfort zone. I really like doing these challenges, they help me become not only a better scrapbooker, but really push me out of my shell.

You Are My Sonshine

I found a new blog that I like. Its called "Bird is the Word". In their challenges, you have to use a specific word they provide in your layouts. In this Challenge, the word was Sun or Sunshine. I designed a layout of my son and called it "You Are My Sonshine". I played with the word sunshine and used the word Son in it. Although the word is pronounced the same when you say it, it has a  double meaning when you write it. I like the combination of Yellow and Black that I used. The papers are from Crate Paper, the flowers are Prima and the yellow letters are Thickers.

Celebrate Life & Happiness

Here is another layout following another great sketch challenge by Creative Scrappers.  Its Sketch # 156. I used the Echo park papers again. I love getting use of the same papers over and over again for different layouts. Not only is the outcome different every time, but I don't like wasting paper and this gives me a chance to use the whole pack. It was a bit of a challenge to do this layout as the sketch calls for you to do some splattering on the paper. It is not my style to splatter ink on the paper therefore I had to find another way of making the sketch to fit my style!! I love butterflies so I decided to make them fly off the page. It gave me the effect I wanted!!

Memories

I just designed another layout using this gorgeous paper from Echo Park: For the Record. I really love the combination of black, red and green. The red flowers are so beautiful and match my dress perfectly.  I designed this layout for the May 15th challenge from Once Upon a Sketch.  I really like this blog because you have to use journaling in your layouts. I had lots of fun designing this one. The challenge was to print your journaling. I actually managed to print my journaling on a pre-made journal card. Needless to say it was very hard to line up but I managed to do it. Once it printed, I had to fill in some smudge areas because the surface was glossy and the ink was smudging. It says: "Capturing this moment in time helps us remember the way we were and keep our memories alive" Oct/11

Laugh

This is a layout I made for the Creative Scrappers Sketch #155. I really love this sketch. I enjoyed making those squares and I love the combination of colours from this fun paper by Echo Park. Its called "For the record" by Bella Road. This is one of our favourite pictures of us because it exactly describes the title "Laugh". The kids thought that posing like this for a picture was hilarious and they were cracking up as the photographer took the picture. I journaled at the bottom; it says: "This moment can only be captured in a snapshot of a second". Below is the layout and the sketch!!

Light

This is a layout I made for the May 1st, "Once upon a sketch” challenge.  I rotated the sketch and moved it to the top right corner to make it more interesting. I like this blog because you must usually include journaling on your layout which is sometimes really hard for me to do. I didn't have anything specific to journal about this photo so instead I wrote about the contrast of light and darkness in the picture and then used the title "Light" to further emphisize it. The journaling spot says: "Sometimes when its all black, so much beauty shines through. So always remember in life: In your darkest hours, the light that shines trhough is the most powerful"

Together

This is another layout using the Pink Paisley Butterfly Garden papers. I love the softness of these papers, the flowers, butterflies and the romantic feeling they give. These papers are girly but can also be used as I have for a picture of my husband and I.

I hope every mother had a Happy Mother's day today. I can't wait to scrapbook the photo taken this morning with my kids bringing me breakfast in bed!!

Well, I've been away from my blog for a while!! sometimes life gets busy... but today after doing an all day crop, I finally have some layouts to share. I used as inspiration a layout from Stuck?. Its their May first Challenge. Here is the sketch and their layout. I used a combination of papers from Gabrielle from Bo Bunny and Butterfly Garden from Pink Paisley. I love how the two lines mesh together so well!!! I wanted to scrapbook some pictures of my hubby and me and here is the first one of a series. I'm quite pleased with the result. I will post some more tomorrow. If you like my blog please follow me and leave comments!! I'd love to hear from you....
